Once you are seated, the dog settles at your feet within your own foot space, not in a separate seat and not blocking the aisle or your neighbor. Give it the familiar mat, a quick cue to lie down and then leave it alone. A trained dog reads a settled handler and follows. Most of the work here is staying still and unbothered yourself.
The same rule that wins your dog its seat also sets the bar it has to clear. A Service Dog stays under your control and behaves like a working dog. No growling, no lunging, no jumping on people, no barking that will not stop and no relieving itself in the cabin. A dog that does these things can be treated as a pet, even if it is a genuine Service Dog. For a very large dog, call the accessibility desk ahead about a bulkhead row or buying a second seat so it fits cleanly.
